Welcome to Capital of Texas Enrolled Agents’ Web Site
CTEA, or Capital of Texas Enrolled Agents, is an organization whose mission is to foster the professional growth of its members through Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and facilitate communications with the Internal Revenue Service and state taxation agencies. Our group is comprised of more than one hundred Austin and central Texas area tax professionals, the majority of whom are enrolled agents (EAs). Rounding out the membership are CPAs, attorneys and other tax practitioners.
CTEA members adhere to a strict code of ethical and professional conduct as set forth by Treasury Department Circular No. 230. The U.S. Treasury sets rigorous professional standards and work experience requirements for EAs, who are the only federally licensed tax practitioners. State regulators license CPAs and attorneys. In order to maintain their professional status, EAs must have a minimum of seventy-two hours of CPE (directly related to federal taxation issues) over a three-year period and must apply to be re-certified.
CTEA members’ areas of expertise include individual and business tax preparation, representation before the IRS in examination and collection issues, tax planning and other financial services. With their broad spectrum of knowledge and experience, CTEA members can provide professional assistance to the public on a wide variety of tax and financial issues at federal, state and local levels.
Note to CTEA Members: Our President was recently presented with an Excellence in Partnering Award in recognition and appreciation of her partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, Small Business/Self- Employed Division, to educate and serve America's taxpayers.
